Are you on the right plan?
You'll finish with: An honest answer on Free, Pro, Max or Team.
The most expensive mistake is paying for a plan you don't use — and the second is grinding along on one that's too small while blaming the tool.
Rough guide, not gospel
FreeTrying it out. You'll hit limits fast.
ProRegular use. Includes Claude Code and Cowork.
MaxDaily driver, long agent runs, heavy Code use.
Team / EnterpriseShared projects, staff, admin control.
Plans, limits and pricing change often. Check Anthropic's current plan page before deciding — anything written here could be out of date by the time you read it. We're giving you the questions, not the numbers.
The honest test
You probably don't need Max if:
- You use Claude a few times a week
- It's mostly writing and research
- You rarely hit a limit
- You don't run long agent jobs
You probably do want Max if:
- You hit Pro limits regularly and it interrupts real work
- You run Claude Code or Cowork most days
- Agents run long jobs for you
Before you upgrade
Hitting limits often means an inefficient setup rather than a small plan. A tidy CLAUDE.md and a couple of skills cut how much you burn re-explaining yourself. Fix the setup, then decide.
Do this now
- Think back over the last fortnight. How many times did a limit actually stop you?
- None? You're on the right plan or too big a one.
- Constantly? Do Foundations first, then re-check. Upgrade last, not first.
Before you move on
You can say why you're on your current plan, in one sentence, without guessing.
